What the First Home Owner Grant in South Australia Actually Means for You

The South Australian First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) provides eligible first home buyers with up to $15,000 towards a new home. To qualify, the home must be brand new or substantially renovated, and you must live in it for at least six continuous months within 12 months of settlement.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the FHOG in South Australia, you must:

- Be buying or building a new home.

- Not have previously owned property in Australia.

- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

- Intend to live in the home as your main residence for at least 6 months.

How to Apply

Applications are usually made through your lender when you apply for your home loan, or directly via RevenueSA. As your broker, I can handle this process to ensure you meet all criteria and provide the right documentation.

When You Receive the Grant

The timing depends on whether you’re buying or building:

- **Buying a new home:** The grant is paid at settlement.

- **Building:** It’s usually paid on the first construction drawdown (often when the slab is poured).
